Global HR Software Without the Global Price Tag

Mellow Editorial·3 min read

"Global" has become an expensive word in HR software. The moment a platform describes itself as global, the price tends to climb — sales-led pricing, per-country fees, managed-service add-ons, and quotes you only see after a discovery call.

It does not have to be that way. This article explains why global HR software became so expensive, and how to get genuine multi-country coverage without the premium.

Why "global" got expensive

Three things drive the cost of global HR platforms.

The first is Employer of Record. Real EOR is expensive to deliver because the provider becomes the legal employer and carries genuine liability. Platforms that lead with EOR price everything around that high anchor.

The second is sales-led pricing. Many global platforms do not publish prices. Pricing by quote almost always costs more than pricing by price list, because the quote is set to what the buyer will bear.

The third is the add-on model. The advertised price is for a thin core, and the things you actually need — payroll, compliance modules, analytics — are priced separately. The "global" platform turns out to be several products in a trench coat.

If a platform will not show you a price until you have spoken to sales, assume the price is higher than it would be if they published it.

What you are usually actually buying

Most businesses that buy global HR software do not need EOR for the bulk of their workforce. They have entities in a few countries — the UK, Ireland, the US, perhaps the UAE, India, or Australia — and most of their people are employed directly through those entities.

For those employees, you do not need a platform priced around EOR liability. You need HR and payroll software that genuinely covers each of those countries.

How Mellow prices global

Mellow covers six countries — the UK, Ireland, the USA, the UAE, India, and Australia — with native payroll calculation in each. And it publishes its prices: from £4 per employee per month, four tiers, all inclusive. Payroll is part of the Professional tier, not an add-on. Currency is shown locally; Paddle handles conversion at checkout.

There is no discovery call required to find out what it costs. The pricing is on the pricing page.

The honest caveat

Mellow keeps the price down partly by being focused. It does six countries, not 150, and it does not provide Employer of Record. If you need EOR breadth, a platform like Deel is the right tool and it will cost what EOR costs.

But if your global footprint is six countries or fewer, you are paying the "global" premium for breadth you are not using. Native depth in the countries you actually operate in, at a published price, is the better deal.

What to look for

When you evaluate global HR software, ask three questions. Is payroll included or an add-on? Is the price published or quote-only? And does the platform calculate payroll natively in your countries, or integrate to a third party? Honest answers to those three will tell you whether you are paying for substance or for the word "global." Compare the options.
